Tip Up Slider Idea Update:
Rich is selling a kit to
convert/build your own tip up slider. |
|
 |
Rich Meske is the owner of this plane (an RV-6). At
first it didn't look that much different than every other Tip Up
canopy I have seen. It wasn't until I got up close that I
realized that it wasn't a Tip Up style canopy at all but
a Slider canopy
that tips up!! |
 |
"How Cool", I said. This builder wanted an easy
way to access
the baggage compartment yet still retain the benefits of the
sliding canopy.
There is a notch cut in the slider rail about 3/4 of the
way back. This allows the rear of the slider canopy to be
lifted off the rail and tipped forward on the slider bearings. I don't know all the
details of how this system works since I've focused on a Tip Up Canopy for
my RV-6 but it sure worked out great. |

Now, if he can figure out how to get rid of the front
roll bar in the middle of the windshield it would be perfect.
Not only was the idea great, but the execution and workmanship
made it look like a factory design. It's difficult ,
but you can see the support rod that holds the canopy in the tip
up position. The rod folds down and is secured on the rail
behind the seat. There is also a spring loaded mechanism on
the canopy that allows quick latching and unlatching of the rod
from the canopy. Very, Very Cool indeed....... |
